Need somewhere (else) to hang up your coats, bags and scarves? This compact, modern coat rack is an attractive eyecatcher in any hall. You can make it as wide or as narrow as you wish, which means it fits absolutely anywhere. We show you how to make your new coat rack and secure it to the wall in a few easy steps.
  1. Step 1: Saw all the pieces you need to size.
  2. Step 2: Take the front piece and mark a point 50 mm from the bottom every 50 mm. Drill a hole at every point with a 20 mm spade bit.
  3. Step 3: Screw and glue all parts together. Use the clamps when gluing.
  4. Step 4: Fill the screw holes and gently sand the whole piece.
  5. Step 5: Prime and leave to dry.
  6. Step 6: Paint in the desired colour and leave to dry.
  7. Step 7: Measure where you want to hang the coat rack and, using the angle brackets, mark the holes you will need to drill. Take care to ensure they are level.
  8. Step 8: Drill the holes in the wall, insert the plugs and screw the angle brackets to the wall.
  9. Step 9: Place the coat rack on the angle brackets and screw it on.
  10. Step 10: Place the hooks in the holes and hang your coats, scarves and bags on them.
